Tank Containers
Tank containers are used to transport liquid cargoes, such as: 1) foodstuffs: fruit juices, spirits, sweet oils; 2) chemicals: hazardous materials, such as fuels, toxic substances, corrosion protection agents.

tank_containerThese containers must be at least 80% full. This is very important as it can prevent dangerous surging of the liquids in transit. But on the other hand, they must not be over 95% full, or there will not be sufficient ullage space for thermal expansion. To fill the tank in and not to mistake, you can use special formula, with the help of which the extent of thermal expansion may be calculated. It is: ΔV = Va • γ • ΔT, Ve = Va (1 + γ • ΔT); where ΔV- change in volume, Va - volume at initial temperature, Ve  - final volume at temperature, γ - coefficient of cubic (thermal) expansion, ΔT - temperature difference in degrees kelvin.

Those tank containers that are intended for transporting foodstuffs must be labeled "Potable Liquids only". Some hazardous materials must be transported in tank containers with no in- or outlet openings below the surface of the liquid.

These containers are generally designed for an operating pressure of up to 3 bar (above atmospheric). The test pressure used is 4.5 bar (above atmospheric).

Tank container can also be equipped with insulation or heating if it is needed for cargo. Temperature sensors help to control the temperature of the.
